Stichting Muziek In Huis is a foundation that organises professional chamber music concerts in care-taking institutes. It was initiated, and founded, by oboist Nico de Gier in 1999. The foundation has been growing ever since, and at the moment SMIH organises more then 650 concerts a year - about 15% of the total amount of classical chamber music concerts in The Netherlands. The 7.000th concert will take place early in 2014.
Muziek in Huis brings high-quality classical chamber music to people who no longer have the ability (or mobility) to go to concerts themselves. For the musicians our foundation can offer a unique opportunity to get a lot of playing experience on the stage. They will also learn how to communicate and program so that they meet the specific requirements of the audiences. The ensembles that we select in the annual auditions get offered a tour with 20-30 concerts. The locations are mainly in the Randstad-area (in the provinces of Noord Holland, Zuid Holland and Utrecht), in Zeeland and in the north eastern parts of the Netherlands.
Muziek in Huis promotes its activities by organising symposia and publishing a biannual magazine Intermezzo and a newsletter La Folia. All the magazines can be found on the page Stichting, and can be viewed with the help of a PDF-reader. The articles are indexed on the homepage.
